Editor's Verdict:

AmericanSingles.com is another heavyweight of online dating, with over 7 million registered users. As the name suggests, American Singles focuses very heavily on - wait for it - American Singles! However, although the majority of the users are from the US and Canada, the site does have plenty of members in over 200 other countries around the world, notably the UK, Australia and some parts of Europe.

The first thing you'll notice when you join AmericanSingles is how easy the registration process is. To sign up as a free or paid member you only need to choose a username and password, fill in your e-mail address and date-of-birth, then just answer 7 multiple choice questions about yourself and write a one or two line introduction to yourself and that's it! After that, you will have full access to the site and you can begin searching for other members in your area immediately! We have to say that having reviewed many many dating sites for the purposes of these reviews that this was one of the easiest and quickest registration processes we've come across!

The second thing you'll notice about AmericanSingles.com is how user friendly the whole site is - there are no banners or advertisements, the layout is clean and tidy and the site is extremely easy to navigate, even for internet newbies!

American Singles is packed with handy features to make life easier for you, such as the "Click" feature, which asks you if you think you would "click" with another member based on his/her pics and profile. If you say yes and the other member also says that he/she thinks they would click with you, then this could be the start of a beautiful friendship! Then there's the "Flirt" feature where you can send a pre-written one liner to a potential match, by saying something like "I was bowling for love, and you're right up my alley. Ready to strike?" or perhaps something less cheesy! There are about 50 or 60 one-liners to choose from, divided into many categories. Although, AmericanSingles.com has all the features to be a great online dating site, it doesn't rank top of our list of online dating sites and here are a few reasons why...

First of all if you're a free member you will not be able to respond to an e-mail that a premium member sends you. The only thing you will be able to do is Flirt back with them and send them one of the pre-written one-liners. This is not unusual among dating sites - many of them don't allow free members to reply to emails without upgrading their membership, however some do - and those that do are at the top of our list of Online Dating Sites. Secondly, you can't tell by looking at the member profiles which ones are free members and which ones are premium members. So that doesn't help matters! Thirdly, there is no keyword search available. Some dating sites allow you to search the member profiles for any keywords you choose. This can be a great way of finding other members who have the same interests you do. However, it is true that most dating sites don't have this feature, and neither does AmericanSingles.com. Fourthly, when you click on a member's profile, it pops up in a new window. This new window can't be resized in any way and we found that with our display settings that the whole profile wouldn't fit in the window, forcing us to scroll left and right as well as up and down to read the whole profile. Though this will be dependent on the display settings of your computer (we have ours set to be quite small, so hopefully you will not experience this problem). This is not the end of the world, but we found it did get a bit annoying after a while. And finally, there is no online webzine with articles, tips and stories available with AmericanSingles, as there often is with other dating sites. Whether this is really a disadvantage will be totally up to your personal preferences - some people love the webzines, some people never read them.

Having said all that, AmericanSingles is easy to navigate, easy to use, has a massive database of over 7 million members, and is very competitively priced.
