• OKCupid.com is one of the very few dating sites that's totally free to join. Everything is free on OKCupid!
• Sign-up to OKCupid and create your own profile and upload your pictures
• Perform a search for other members
• Browse other members' profiles and look at their pictures for free
• Send a woo to another member - this is effectively the same as winking at them. You may only woo 3 people in any 24 hour period.
• Email other members using OK Cupid's internal e-mail system
• Access up to 30,000 personality tests, created not only by the staff at OKCupid.com, but also by other members at OKCupid! Choose from the main Dating Test, the staff-written tests, and the user-written tests. These tests are many and varied and range from serious personality tests to fun and flirty tests. Signing up to OKCupid.com is fast and easy and best of all it's totally free! Unlike most other sites, where you initially sign up as a free standard member but are then only given limited access to the features of the site until you upgrade to a paid premium membership, with OKCupid you have complete access to the entire site right from the start. This means that you may view all the member profiles and all member photographs as well as contact the members by internal e-mail as a free member. There are a few other totally free dating sites, however OKCupid.com is the most popular free dating site we've come across.

Performing a Search on OKCupid.com:

It took us a little while to find the search box on OKCupid - our quest for a link or button marked "search" didn't go as well as it usually does, but we eventually found the search box under the heading "Matches", sub-heading "View Matches". The search form is fairly basic compared to many other dating sites, but allows you to search by most of the major criteria, including...

• Gender (girls looking for guys, guys looking for guys, guys looking for guys, etc.)

• Distance from your location or another specified city, to within 10 miles
• Height range
• When they were last online
• When they joined the site
• Religion
• Ethnicity

OKCupid.com is one of the most popular free online dating sites we've come across. Whilst we don't know exactly how many subscribed members it has, we can tell you that it has 1.7 million unique visitors a month and when we checked it out for the purposes of this review, there were around 4000 other members online from all over the world. Joining is fast and easy, and you can be logged on and searching for your perfect match having only answered the most basic questions about where you live, how old you are and nothing much else. Once you're logged on, you'll be given the opportunity to expand your profile by answering some questions about your personality, upload photos and take any of the 30,000 online tests that are on offer. As a free member to OKCupid, you'll be able to do all the things that most other dating sites require that you pay for, including viewing all the members' profiles, all their photographs, and even contacting members using the internal e-mail tool! There is literally nothing to pay for on OKCupid.com - it is a totally free dating service!

When you view another member's profile you will be able to select various tabs on their profile to view different information about them, including their profile basics, their journal, their pictures, any tests they have taken, and any comments that have been made about them by other members. The profile basics include a section where the member has given themselves various personality awards, ranging from "more kinky" to "more lawful" and everything inbetween. These cartoon-like icons allow you to see at a glance what type of personality the member has. This is an interesting feature that's quite unique to OKCupid.

OKCupid.com is humorously written and the online tests are so varied and amusing as to become quite addictive, however, like most dating sites, OKCupid.com is not without it's flaws. We found that despite a simple and logical layout, the site did take a little getting used to. Having reviewed many dating sites, we've become accustomed to various features having certain names. However, on OKCupid.com, these same features often had different names, which threw us a little at the start. For instance, most dating sites allow you to send a wink or a smile to another member, but on OKCupid it's called a woo, as in to woo someone. Many dating sites also allow you to see who's viewed your profile, typically under a heading imaginatively titled "Who's Viewed my Profile" or something similar, but on OKCupid.com, it's under "My Stalkers", which shows more imagination on the part of the authors, but it did take us a minute or two to figure out what that was. Also, we did have to do a bit of hunting about for the search box, which we eventually found under Matches - View Matches. But these points are just minor and once you know where everything is, you'll be fine. From a features point of view, OKCupid has most of the features you would expect of a dating site but not all - as far as we could tell there are no chat rooms on OKCupid.com, which is a major feature of many dating sites, and also there appears to be no online magazine, with useful features and articles on the dating scene, such as are to be found on many of our top-rated dating sites - see our top 10 list here. Having said all that, OKCupid.com is free, so we can't complain and neither can you! It seems to have a fairly large members' database, and a comprehensive search capability, allowing you to easily find potential matches in your local area. The feature that really makes OKCupid stand out from the crowd however is the number of online tests they have, ranging from the "Are you a good driver" test to the "Futurama character similarity" test. Some of the tests are also a bit rude for us to mention here! Did we also mention that OKCupid is totally free?!

OK Cupid - Nothing to lose! I signed up to okcupid because it was free! I would concur with the editorial review,I'm not sure how the site is financially viable though. As a 50 something male and not the worlds most silver tongued Lothario I am pleased to say I have made contact with several women who interested me,better still I have had a few replies. It's fair to say I'm pretty sure I have been talking to real people, who knows - I may find love etc on this site. The tests are quite fun to do,I'm not sure if they are completely accurate but I think the more that are taken the more likely they will come up with an accurate picture of ones personality. Another thing about the tests, you can take a test,then delete the results.Just for fun I took a few tests in various roles (gay man into s&m, just looking for free straight sex,as a woman, & a virgin amongst others). I was able to wipe the results off afterwards, it was fun and better than what was on television at the time. I haven't given the site full marks, but I only recently joined the site,the only reservation I have is the relatively small membership. For value for money it cant be bettered.
