Ancestry.com

Editor's Verdict:
There can be no doubt that Ancestry.com is the finest website available for the family tree enthusiast - whether beginner or expert. It isn't the cheapest but if you pay mediocre prices, you'll end up with a mediocre service and, bearing in mind that building a family tree can be a long and sometimes frustrating process, then we would recommend that you spend a little extra on a quality dependable service like Ancestry.com.

Ancestry.co.uk |

Editor's Verdict:
In our opinion Ancestry.co.uk is particularly beneficial and relatively inexpensive to those who research primarily in the UK . Those who need greater coverage of the world in their searches would be advised to use Ancestry.com, which is also part of the MyFamily.com network. All in all we would unhesitatingly recommend Ancestry.co.uk to anyone wishing to find their roots in the UK .

Ancestry.com.au |

Editor's Verdict:
It should be noted that Ancestry.com.au is the Australian version of the US Ancestry.com genealogy website, and as such has many of the same features. Just as we would recommend Ancestry.com as our No. 1 choice to any US citizen wishing to research his/her family tree, we would recommend Ancestry.com.au as our No. 1 choice to any Australian citizen wishing to do the same. Ancestry.com.au, Australia's most popular family history site, offers members access to 800 million names.

Editor's Verdict:
Genealogy.com is a comprehensive website offering all the information any budding or experienced genealogist would require. In our opinion the free access to the experts found in Genealogy.com is one of the prime reasons to use this website. These guys have been there and done it all and are willing to share their experiences with you so why not take advantage of this facility which could advance your searches in leaps and bounds...

GenesReunited.co.uk |
Editor's Verdict:
GenesReunited.co.uk is a sister site of Friends Reunited. It has a friendly approach and the building of a family tree should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. The Hot Matches feature is particularly useful. It is free to view the site contents and use the family tree maker software . However if you want to contact other members of GenesReunited.co.uk it costs £9.95 for six months.

RootsWeb.com |

Editor's Verdict:
If you're on a budget and are unwilling to pay to research your family tree, then RootsWeb can be a valuable source of information. However, if you can afford the subscription to Ancestry.com, particularly if you're new to genealogy research, then we suggest you do yourself a favor, save yourself a world of time and frustration, and take a look at what Ancestry.com has to offer instead!

KindredKonnections.com |

Editor's Verdict:
KindredKonnections.com does not compare with, say, Ancestry.com. and the other top 5 genealogical sites on our review site. Building a family tree is a time consuming and challenging endeavour and a friendly, helpful website is of paramount importance in this process. We did not find KindredKonnections.com to be such a website and can think of no compelling reason why any genealogist would choose this website over the many other user-friendly sites available.

FamilySearch.org
Editor's Verdict:
As FamilySearch.org is completely free we would recommend it to anyone beginning to trace their family tree as only time needs to be invested. Be aware however that online access is not available to all the resources contained in the Family History Library and we found that the site was rather UK and US oriented.

OneGreatFamily.com |

Editor's Verdict:
As the database of OneGreatFamily.com is built by its clients and is therefore completely dependent on its clients, we found that the information was limited. We found the site to be adequate but, if you're a serious genealogist, we can think of no compelling reason to subscribe to OneGreatFamily.com when, for a mere $10 extra per month, you could subscribe to Ancestry.com (our most highly recommend site) and gain access to its extensive and comprehensive data.

WorldVitalRecords.com |

Editor's Verdict:
We found the WorldVitalRecords.com website fairly user-friendly although it did lack the resources of some of the more established genealogy sites. But it is new and what it lacks in resources it makes up for in enthusiasm and does seem to be coming up with new ideas. Given time it could be up there with Ancestry.com, but not just yet!
